On the 1st day of the 1st lunar month (Maitreya Buddha Festival),
Light the lamp and pray for blessing,
Everyone stays safe and healthy,
Every family embraces auspiciousness always.

Sau Seng Lum Buddhist Temple held the lamp offering to Maitreya Buddha on the 1st day of the 1st lunar month and the lamp offering was performed on behalf of devotees, wishing everyone have a safe, comfortable, healthy, and joyful Chinese New Year.

Devotees light a lamp in front of Maitreya Buddha on the 1st day of Chinese New Year to bring light and hope to themselves and their loved ones. With the strength of sincerity, they wish for the world to be free from strife and conflict, and there be no disaster on earth and may all the sincere prayers and blessings for the Chinese New Year bring in brimming, perfect, and boundless light.

The Abbess, Rev. Chang Heng said that by lighting a lamp for oneself and his family, a devotee can perform lamp offering to Maitreya Buddha, praying for world peace and sentient beings with a pious heart, at the same time cultivating good aspiration and shows the joyful spirit of Maitreya Buddha, wishes and bless others from the heart, and vow to learn to have a joyful heart, an open heart, and be tolerant to everything, just like Maitreya Buddha.

While offering a lamp to pay respect to the Buddha, devotees indeed lit a lamp for themselves too, planted a boundless field of blessing, with the light guiding their every step so that they can always be safe.

“Lighting a lamp for the Buddha is a symbol of releasing bodhicitta and developing the heart of benefiting all sentient beings, allowing oneself to bring light and hope to countless sentient beings like a beacon. I wish everyone will cultivate the character of compassion, patience, tolerance, and optimism. With this, one can correspond with the compassion and wisdom of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas.”
