Lamp Offering for Blessing on Guan Yin Bodhisattva Enlightenment Day
“Prayers depart a thousand hearts; in a thousand hearts he answers.
He is the boat that crosses people over the sea of suffering”.
The Guan Yin Bodhisattva sails the sea of suffering
and rescues those who are in suffering.
All prayers will be answered and everything goes along the way.
Coinciding with the Guan Yin Bodhisattva’s Festival on the 19th day of the 6th lunar month, Sau Seng Lum Buddhist Temple held the “Lamp Offering for Blessing” event, preaching the mercy and compassion of Guan Yin Bodhisattva to save all suffering beings, encourages devotees to learn the spirit of Guan Yin Bodhisattva to rescue people from suffering by listening to their voices. The world is full of suffering, and natural and man-made disasters are frequent, the public need to exert the spirit of compassion and relief to save all living beings from the sea of sufferings and troubles.
Devotees lighting up lamps in front of Guan Yin Bodhisattva on this special day, praying with a sincere heart of repentance, may Guan Yin Bodhisattva spread the nectar over the three thousand realms. In addition, to pray for world peace, may the world be free from natural disasters and man-made calamities, also to pray for all sentient beings to be physically and mentally stable and free from suffering.
The Abbess, Rev. Chang Heng encouraged devotees to make great vows so that they can nourish their compassion in the long run, even in the face of adversity. Also, devotees should learn to steer clear from worries and perplexity in their lives, transform resistance into assistance and resolve everything with compassion.
“Follow the example of the compassionate spirit of Guan Yin Bodhisattva, learn to become an embodiment of Guan Yin Bodhisattva to help suffering beings. If one can always have compassion for all sentient beings, then one’s thought of compassion can make us Guan Yin Bodhisattva.”
Rev. Chang Heng also encouraged devotees to experience the great wisdom and compassion of the Bodhisattva through physical practice, as this is not only a very positive way to get rid of suffering, but it can also gradually cultivate own compassion and increase one’s wisdom.
“Practicing the Dharma step by step, bit by bit in daily life. By following the example of Buddha and Bodhisattva, one can become more and more diligent on the path of cultivation, and gradually self-improvement leads to growing wisdom and compassion and long-term practice. In this way, even when difficulties and adversity occur, one will constantly strive to deal things with the power of compassion and wisdom of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas.”
