Samantabhadra Bodhisattva Festival

On the 21st day of the 2nd lunar month, Sau Seng Lum Buddhist Temple (PJ) held the “Lamp Offering on Samantabhadra Bodhisattva Festival” to commemorate the great vows of Mahayana Bodhisattva and to pray for world peace and may the world be free from natural disasters and man-made calamities. In addition, to pray for all sentient beings to be physically and mentally stable and free from suffering.

Samantabhadra Bodhisattva symbolizes the virtues of reason and conduct. He makes a broad and profound vow based on the deep bodhi mind. His body, mouth, mind and everything is pure, wonderful, and possess great virtue.

The Ten Great Vows of Samantabhadra Bodhisattva:

  1. Homage to All Buddhas
  2. Praising Tathagatas
  3. Extensively Conducting Offerings
  4. Repenting Karmic Hindrances
  5. Rejoicing in All Meritorious Deeds
  6. Pleading for Turning the Wheel of Dharma
  7. Pleading to Buddhas for Their Staying in This World
  8. Constantly Learning from Buddha
  9. Always Accommodating to Sentient Beings
  10. Universal Dedication of Merits

The Abbess, Rev. Chang Heng encouraged the devotees to learn from Samantabhadra Bodhisattva to practice and diligently fulfil their great vows in their daily lives. With perseverance, possessing an attitude of not being afraid of difficulties and with continuous practice, their faith and truth are reflected in their lives and realize their good wishes and achieve the perfecting of self for the benefit of others.

The ten great vows of the Samantabhadra Bodhisattva include ten kinds of practices and ideals. Therefore, only when one learns and practices the fundamental spirit of cultivation and the vows of Samantabhadra Bodhisattva and attaches equal importance to wisdom, action and diligent practice. Only then can the wisdom of the Buddha shine brightly, and everyone receives the wisdom and blessings of the vows of the Bodhisattva and play their own role in creating a harmonious society.

“Samantabhadra Bodhisattva represents the implementation and realization of wisdom, a model for the practice of the actions of Bodhisattvas and the use of wisdom for the benefit of all beings. Learn the mind of the bodhisattvas, embody the truth of our consciousness and enlightenment in our daily lives, and put into practice the Dharma we have learned.”
