Calamity Dispelling, Auspicious & Cheng Ming Puja 2023

In conjunction with the 121st anniversary celebration and Cheng Ming Festival, Sau Seng Lum Buddhist Temple has organised a two-day “Calamity Dispelling, Auspicious & Cheng Ming Puja” to promote the spirit of filial piety among the general public. The Karunika-raja Prajnaparamita Sutra was recited to show the great spirit of the Buddha by dedicating the merits of chanting to the country’s prosperity, world peace, social harmony, and public well-being.

Buddhism attaches great importance to repaying virtues and kindness. Therefore, Buddhists should pay reverence to loved ones who are living or deceased. Showing filial piety to parents and kindness to all sentient beings, respect for all living beings, and love for all things, is the form of filial piety in Buddhism. Not only to repay the kindness of parents for giving birth and raising us, but also to repay the kindness of the Triple gems, teachers, and elders for nurturing wisdom and life, and the kindness of all sentient beings.

The blessing by the compassion of the Triple Gems, as well as the pure merits and virtues of the devotees in chanting sutras, repenting and confessing, and making vows, can help the deceased to be reborn in the Pure Land by transferring merits to them, at the same time increase the blessing and wisdom of the livings. In this way, it can not only benefit the ancestors and all sentient beings but also purify karma and accumulate merits for the living.

The prayer benefits the living and the deceased. It not only liberates the souls of the deceased, but also to have a swift reborn in the pure land. In addition, devotees and public can pray for the blessings of bodhisattva for the increase of wisdom and merits and dedicate the merits to self and loved ones through lighting the calamity dispelling lamp, merits & wisdom lamp (business), offering to 24 Buddhas, offering of vegetarian food (develop good affinity with others), offering to the departed souls, and other types of offering to cultivate the field of merits.
