2023-09-14Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva Festival

The great vows of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattvas are boundless.
Light a lamp and make a wish,
May all nations live in peace,
May the karma of all sentient beings be eliminated.

Sau Seng Lum Buddhist Temple commemorates the Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva Festival on the 30th day of the 7th lunar month. On this auspicious day, devotees offered lamps to Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, expressing profound gratitude for the compassionate blessings and salvation bestowed on them. They also prayed for the Bodhisattva’s protection for the well-being of their families and pray for the Bodhisattva to guide all beings to transcend the sea of suffering.

With boundless compassion, Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva nurtures and extends support to all sentient beings, especially those in the realms of hell. Transforming His Bodhi mind into a grand aspiration for the salvation of sentient beings, the Bodhisattva employs wisdom and the teachings of Buddhism to liberate all beings from suffering, guiding them toward the path of liberation.

Learning the spirit of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva is not only a tribute to wisdom and upholding the Dharma but also an inspiration for devotees to emulate the Bodhisattva’s spirit of dedication, selflessness, compassion and altruism. It encourages practitioners to consistently care for others and bring blessings to all sentient beings.

On that auspicious day, Sau Seng Lum Buddhist Temple also provided vegetarian lunch, fostering positive connections with the public and received their enthusiastic response. The choice to adopt a vegetarian diet not only signifies respect and compassion for life but also serves as a practical manifestation of the profound teachings of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, highlighting the spirit of cultivating both compassion and wisdom.
